Are cosmetics intended to gratify the wearer or the onlooker?

To dramacatgirl: I believe it's the other way around, you look good when you feel good. And, the reasoning can continue, if you need makeup to feel good, then you are really feeling bad, for you are using something that comes from outside to try to recover something you lack inside. It means you are desperate and are reduced to using a superficial strategy precisely because you are desperate. I believe good looks come from inner confidence and when you lack that nothing can replace it, especially not something material (and external) that you can possess or apply on or add to yourself.

i think both..alot of women wear makeup because they think it makes them look better..alot of men would like to see them with makeup cause it makes them look better

Cosmetics are intended to make a women feel good about herself. to help her feel that she looks the best that she can. They should be applied to look natural and not call attention to the fact that she is wearing them. Just to make everyone think that she looks good, well rested and happy.
